The Village

by Marco Toniolo
Nov 2, 2010 at 10:18

The story behind the village of Monteviasco (Italy), that can be reached only with a gondola or hiking. After WW2 400 people lived there, now there are only 12. We interviewed two of them and rode the ancient path down to the valley.

Enjoy the story behind the village and the pathway that built it,

that was great. loved it. how did you follow on some of those staircase edits? it seemed like the camera might have been on a helmet, but it was so smooth and seemed to go off the edge of the staris while following the rider. either way it was very well done.

Talk about riding through history, cheesy as it may sound. that was really cool though, much appreciated.

Don't see why he had to ride thru the village itself. Yeah, it is kinda nice to see, but I am pretty sure mtn bike tires at 30-60kph damage those stones and I don't imagine he is about to carry new ones up like the old ladies used to carry the wine. Great piece to show the history and beauty. Poor to show disrespect for the place you are a visitor and guest.

Yes, because two bike tires are going make a big diffirence compared to the centuries of ware...

Ah yeah...no need to worry about centuries old paving stones that have endured the elements, foot traffic, and wagon wheels. The rubber from mtb tires won't do a thing - those stones are more durable than concrete.

Hey guys, I do remember when I was a kid and spent the summer holidays with the Oratorio Monteviasco between the priests, and Curiglia Dumenza. About thirty years ago.
I never thought to descend from those steps. For the record are, if I remember correctly 1000.

Loved the video. Then The Iron Man came on, and I started laughing uncontrollably. But really great job mixing history with some techy riding.

Beautiful place and nice people, cool slate path and autumn leaves. Gotta go with those who didn't appreciate the endo turns though... Sergio needs to learn to use more of the track!

Very well edited and filmed too. I like it! Something unique for sure.

And can you imagine walking up that trail with any kind of building materials to build the village? That would've sucked.

cameronbikes- you heard the old man, he use a motorbike before the gondolas, and of course the gondolas. jeez lets not be ninny...not like a world heritage site.
Have to admit watchin a trail get devirgized to bikes was cool, riding was a little weak ( although Im into dh) but a very well produced piece, cheers.
